Are You Driven by Fear or Inspiration?
Last year at this time we had sold our house and had roughly 30 days to move out. In a world that has been surrounded by uncertainty the last couple of years (lets face it, much longer than that) it was a bold move and hard for many to understand. We packed our whole house in negative degree temperatures and put our stuff in storage. Then just like that we left.
I was never more certain that selling our house and traveling across the country was the right plan of action for us. We didn't have more than a few weeks planned in advance as far as where we were staying or where we were going. There was a lot "up in the air".
But not really...
Because I had spent so much time seeing this adventure play out in my head. What seemed like a sudden decision had actually been dreamed up in my head for as long as I can remember. I had seen a life where me and Elaine spent more time together and were driving up the pacific coast highway, or through the dessert on our way out west, or hiking the mountains with friends.
I didn't need to know how, I just knew it'd happen.
I was driven by the possibility of what I thought my life could feel like.
Of course, this came with practice. We are so often taught to play it safe and be "realistic". We learn how to shut off the part of ourselves that feels alive or has our best interest in mind. Our intuition and "gut feeling." That's unreliable we've been told.
Focusing on what you DO want is a practice. One from my experience pays off more often than not. It's easy to focus on what we DON'T want (that's what we've often been taught).
But what if you allowed yourself to be driven by inspiration instead of fear??
Workout and exercise because you love your body not because you hate it.
Go to work because it gives you purpose not because you're afraid you can't pay the bills.
Date night with your partner because you absolutely can't wait for that special time together not because if you don't go you'll feel alone or unworthy.
Whatever the situation, it is important to have a perspective that INSPIRES you.
You always get to choose. YOUR PERSPECTIVE.
What are you going to do out of inspiration this year???
