The Secret to Lasting Fitness and Health

Losing fat, building muscle and feeling amazing is what we all aspire for.

We all have different ideas of what that means but we all want it.
We sacrifice, we work hard, we struggle, we suffer and we grind all in hopes of being fit and healthy.

For most (96%) you will fail. You will fail to lose the weight over the long term and 66% of you will actually gain more.

How can this be? How can you have more access to information than in any time in history, and still spend years and decades in a cycle of unhealthy habits and behaviors? You have all the info, so what gives?

I've spent years researching and learning about human behavior and psychology. The more I learn the more I realize I don't know that much.

But I do know this for certain:

You are who you are.
Your body, health and fitness are a reflection of what you believe to be true.
You will act in accordance to what you believe to be true and your actions will yield a result.

If you don't like it, you must change who you are.
When you change who you are, you will change what you do.

Its that simple. (not easy)

Any physical transformation demands and internal one first.

(My clients who are most successful get this and understand it. You can read about their experiences here.)

Now that you can see the problem and why you have been stuck we can discuss how to move through it.

You must create a north star. A set of values and principles that guide who and what you are. You may like to believe you are a good person, and I am certain that you are, but what does that mean?

What makes a good person? Your set of values and principles help you define life around you, but most importantly how you navigate life itself. Yes, your values also dictate your choices around food and exercise.

To create a set of values and principles you must imagine your truest and most authentic self. Forget your "best" self, that insinuates a "bad" self. There's just what is. No good or bad (One of my beliefs and values)

I believe at our core we are a source of love, happiness, and health. If we aren't radiating those then its because we are pretending to be someone or something else.

Who have you been pretending to be?

Write it out.

Answer these questions:
My most authentic self sees life as___________
My most authentic self takes care of my body by______________
My most authentic self believes that other people are_____________
My most authentic self believes that the world is___________

These answers pave the way for how you choose to see the world.

Once you've chosen how to see the world you must get clear on how you show up in it.

What do you value? What guides your decisions?

An example would be that I value my health. I have a standard for my health and fitness levels. I like to maintain a certain bodyfat percent, certain times on my runs, certain numbers on my lifts. I like to wake up feeling a certain way and function throughout the day with ease. If I fall outside my standards then my focus, priorities and actions will reflect certain actions until I recalibrate. This will dictate my diet choices as well as my training. It makes it easy to say yes or no to various things because I know why I am doing it and it is important to me. Because another value and principle of mine is to always do my best.

Again, it comes from having a standard, a set of principles and beliefs to guide you and then choosing the right actions by having awareness.

Some questions to guide your thinking for establishing clear values and principles for a great life.

1. What do I value in life?
-Experiences -Relationships -Work -Play
Get clear on what the most authentic and ideal versions of these look like.

2. What is optimal health look and feel like for me?
-How do you want to feel throughout the day? -How do you want to look? -How do you want to function?

3. How do I navigate hardship with great ease?
Life hits you, but you get to hit back. How do you handle these situations with more grace and ease?

The answers to these questions should come from your most authentic and true self. The part of you that you are most proud of. The most ideal version.

Your job from here is to bring awareness and act in alignment in thought, feeling, actions.

Its only when our thoughts, feelings and actions are best friends can we align to our most authentic and highest self.

This makes sticking to any diet or training a walk in the park because you no longer have to barter or talk yourself into it. Motivation and discipline are non-factors but being healthy is just who you are.

Hope this is useful to you.
